Resources for Families

Partners for Prevention is here to help families and community members! If you need information about specific substance use concerns, please begin on our Resources page. If you can’t find the information you need there, please email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org and we’ll work with you to find the information you need.

Operation Parent Handbooks: Free handbooks are available to parents of elementary, middle, and high school youth. Contact us for more information at info@richlandcountypfp.org.

Strengthening Families Program 10-14: A program for parents and youth in grades 5-8 to prepare for the teen years. Parents learn skills and tools to support their children while youth learn how to cope with stress and peer pressure. Please contact us at info@richlandcountypfp.org to receive notification of our next class.

Alcohol and the Teen Brain Brochure. Parents, teachers or anyone who talks with youth about substance use can use this colorful one-page brochure to help explain the effects of alcohol on developing brains. Spanish language edition available too! If you are part of a youth serving organization we can provide multiple copies. Please contact us at info@richlandcountypfp.org to request a copy.

Free Resources to Keep Youth Safe


	Medication Lock Boxes and Bags: We have lockable storage boxes in two sizes and lockable zipper bag that some community members use when traveling. Keeping prescription drugs and THC containing oils, edibles and liquids locked up keeps everyone in your house safe! Storage containers are available at the Richland Center Police Department, Center Pharmacy, The Richland Hospital Clinic, Richland Center Senior Center and Richland Family Pharmacy. Can’t find one or can’t get to our locations when they’re open? Email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org and we’ll arrange a more convenient pick-up location and time.

	Drug disposal: We offer two drug disposal options: Deterra Kits and mailing envelopes. Deterra kits come in two sizes and allow you to safely discard prescription medications in your garbage without the medications entering the water system. Mailing envelopes allow you to simply mail unneeded medications to a disposal location where they will be incinerated. Kits and envelopes are available at the Richland Center Police Department, Center Pharmacy, The Richland Hospital Clinic, Richland Center Senior Center and Richland Family Pharmacy. Can’t find one or can’t get to our locations when they’re open? Email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org and we’ll arrange a more convenient pick-up location and time.

	Drug Test Screeners: These easy-to-use urine screeners detect nicotine, marijuana (THC) and alcohol use. Partners for Prevention will provide you with a package of 5 test cartridges that screen for all three substances. Teens tell us that knowing they may be tested helps them avoid use by giving them an out if they are pressured to use! To request a package, email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org.org and we’ll arrange a pick-up location and time. Please note we can only provide families with one package.

	Tamper Tape: Tamper resistant tape can be used to seal bottles of alcohol or other items to prevent access in your home. Families may use tamper tape when they are going out of town or when they are hosting a sleepover or teen gathering. Partners for Prevention will provide you with 4 strips of tamper tape upon request. Email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org and we’ll arrange a pick-up location and time.

	Fridge Locks: Easy to use fridge locks keep alcohol secured and out of reach to youth. Email us at info@richlandcountypfp.org

Resources for Community Organizations and Businesses


	ID Scanners: Organizations that are having an event that includes alcohol service can borrow a portable ID scanner form Partners for Prevention. These scanners read driver’s licenses, passports, or other IDs to verify that customers are over 21. Please contact us at info@richlandcountypfp.org to arrange to borrow a scanner.

Hidden in Plain Sight Demonstration: Partners for Prevention staff can come to your event, meeting or business and provide you with a hands-on Hidden in Plain Sight experience. Innocent looking common items like water bottles and soda cans that contain a “stash” compartment are widely available. Do you know what to look for? Please contact us at info@richlandcountypfp.org to arrange a demonstration.

Message Guide for Providers: Anyone who is in regular contact with teenagers has an opportunity to talk to them about substance use. Health care providers including clinics, dental offices, employers and youth-serving organizations will benefit from this brief (30-60 minute) training on framing conversations with youth about avoiding substance use. Narcan Training: Learn the signs of overdose and how to naloxone to save a life. Participants receive a two-dose Narcan administration kit. Virtual or in-person training available. Please contact us at info@richlandcountypfp.org to arrange a training.
